BOOK REVIEW: Black Cat 2-1: The True Story of a Vietnam Helicopter Pilot and His Crew by Bob Ford

by Bob Ford

If you are looking for a great read with lots of action & tons of motivation Black Cat 2-1 is the book for you! New from brown Books Publishing, this is a great read for a diverse group of readers. Bob Ford flew over one thousand missions in Vietnam. This book is his personal account of his life in the war. While on his missions, Bob made a promise that he would remain physically fit after the war & he has. A great read and really inspiring. Both my husband & I enjoyed the book & we have different tastes in books usually. It really offers something for everyone & appeals to readers on many levels.

In the Vietnam War, Bob Ford flew more than one thousand missions between 1967 and 1968 and recalls his experiences in his book Black Cat 2-1: The True Story of a Vietnam Helicopter Pilot and His Crew (Brown Books Publishing Group). In his account, he describes the hardships and trials of war and the camaraderie that formed between members of his crew. Ultimately, Bob Ford made a promise to God to remain physically fit in return for survival in Vietnam

His skillful retelling depicts the experience of fighting for one’s country and risking one’s life every day in a foreign land. After surviving the war, he lived up to his promise, and, as a result, has competed in countless 5Ks, marathons, and Ironman races. By participating in these events, Ford is reminded of the men who were wounded or killed in war and competes with their memories in his heart.

Ford’s book serves as both a tribute to those who died in the war as well as a memoir of the events that shaped him into the man he is today. He serves as an inspiration to all fellow soldiers and citizens of the U.S. who hold fast to their values and strength. He also inspires those who participate in the world of fitness to continue to work in the direction of their goals.

Nothing is impossible if one is willing to put forth hard work and effort, and Ford shows how his faith and tenacity has propelled him forward. Ford’s physical strength derives from the strength he had while in Vietnam, and his book depicts the power of faith and friendship in the darkest of times.
