Review: IGNITE by Spri 900 Calorie Burn by Gaiam

Ashley Borden, 2014

This DVD contains four 25 minute workouts. Ashley works out with 2 backgrounders who show some modifications. You will need dumbbells for the lower body & total body workouts. You can select one workout from the main menu & each workout contians a yoga style warm up & cool down.

Upper body HiiT: This body weight strength & cardio workout is comprised of two circuits containing 3 exercises per circuit. Each exercise is performed for 45 seconds followed by a 15 second rest. Exercises include: burpee, elevator plank, moguls, swimmer, pushups, and hi knees,

Lower Body HiiT: For this weighted lower body workout you perform 2 exercises (squat & overhead press and side lunges to each side) from 1 rep all the way up to 13 reps each followed by one minute rest. Then you move into 20/10 tabata drills: 8 sets of plank followed by 8 sets of fast squats.

Hard Core HiiT: In this core focused workout you perform 3 circuits 2-3 exercises 20 reps each, repeated 4X each. Exercises include skater, plank with forward reach, dips, side plank rotation, plank shoulder tap, squat jacks, and butterfly sit ups.

Head-to-Toe HiiT: In this full body strength workout you perform 3 circuits, 4 rounds of 3 exercises progressing from 4-10 reps each with a one minute rest between circuits. Exercises include push-ups, butterfly sit-ups, fast unweighted squats, bent row, squats, overhead press, alternating snatch, balancing upper back fly, squat & overhead push, pushup-renegade row-squat-overhead press, side lunge, and tri push backs.

These are high intermediate to low advanced workouts. I used 10-15 pound dumbbells and definitely felt the burn. These are fast paced workouts with no wasted time, but you do get rest breaks between circuits. Ashley is a good instructor & provides good form tips. I like the athletic drill style circuits. These def get the job done. I received this DVD to review

Shout Out! Fusion-Wrap Exercise Belt

If you are looking for an exercise or running belt that is both cute & totally functional, look no further than Fusion-Wrap  the Anti-Fanny Pack! I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to review an awesome Fusion Wrap Exercise Belt & I love it! It is very sleek and fits right over your pants or shorts, it is super convenient and most important: totally functional. The Fusion Wrap is available in a ton of cute colors, seriously they have some super fun designs. Choose black to blend with your yoga pants or choose a fun color or print to dress up a boring workout outfit. The Fusion Belt is perfect for going on a run or running errand around town. Perfect for wearing to the gym so you dont have to mess with a locker or cubby where your phone, card, cash, & keys are not so secure. I highly recommend Fusion Wraps to anyone who is active and wants to have their belongings securely on them.

I like to have my card, key, phone, chapstick, and a tissue on hand when doing a run - particularly a long run so a good running belt is a must have. The Fusion Wrap has a zipper so you can easily remove it or put it on. The two zippered pouches ensure your belongings stay secure but are easy to access while on the go.

The Fusion Wrap is also perfect for travel. Keep your passport and cash safe and out of sight. You can easily wear the Fusion Belt comfortably under your pants/ shirt for out of sight storage of all your personal possessions. Fusion Wraps are available in sizes 0-22 and in mens, womens, and childrens sizes. Seriously something for everyone on your list! I love so many of the fun patterns, see above black, pink camo, and army print camo and check out these fun prints below:

Denise's new 10 Week 360° Plan is a new customizable 10-week health and fitness plan that combines everything Denise knows about exercise, nutrition and motivation all in one place. The plan includes online access to her TV shows, new workouts, health & nutrition plans, customized menu options, online forums, and so much more. The Fat Blasting Cardio workout, detailed below, is available to stream on the Denise Austin website with the 10 Week, 360 Plan and available on DVD as an add-on to the system.

10 Week, 360 Plan: Fat Blasting Cardio
D
enise Austin, 2014

Denise leads this cardio & light toning workout with 2 backgrounders in a white studio. The workout is divided into three sections: cardio intervals, cardio kettlebell, and tabata circuits. The tabata is 2 sets of 2 exercises 4X followed by one exercise 2 times, 20 seconds on, 10 seconds rest. You will need light dumbbells for this workout. This workout is available to stream on Denise's website and on DVD.

After a warmup & stretch you move into cardio intervals using light weights: low impact jacks, diagonal reaches down & across, tri kickback & toe tap, upper back fly & toe taps, mogul hops, kicks, cross knee pulls, side step & lateral raise, overhead press & chest pulses, jump rope, & marching. Kettlebell: step & cross chop, swings, dip & chop, kicks, front & back
kicks, side step & reach, abduct & reach, and bow & arrow. Tabata: fast feet, skater, upper cuts & side lunge, front knee pulls, and squat reaches. The workout concludes with a cooldown & stretch.

The cardio intervals & kettlebell routines are intermediate and the tabata is high intermediate. Love how the workout is divided into 3 sections so the time really flies and the variety of exercises will keep you interested. I worked up a great sweat and felt this more challenging than a lot of Denise's older workouts. She is still bubbly & motivating but def not over the top. I  love working out with Denise & this new set is right up my ally. This workout is athletic and mostly drill style. I received this DVD to review.

Arctic Ease: An Easier Way to "Ice" Your Exercise Aches & Pains Away!

I am an avid exerciser, and a newbie to running outdoors. As such, I occasionally encounter the aches and pains that come along with rigorous exercise including: sprains, strains and overuse injuries. For all my minor strains and sprains, I use Arctic Ease. Arctic Ease is a clinically-studied reliable and effective treatment for mild to moderate aches & pains, joint and muscle pains and sprains and repetitive motion injuries. It is much easier and more comfortable than icing. SO much more convenient and feels much better than an ice pack. I have been using Arctic Ease on my ankle and my knee and am a convert! I love the quick relief it provides. Now available at CVS Stores!!! Free shipping online for orders over $30! Arctic Ease products are proudly made right here in the USA!

In a clinical study Arctic Ease Instant Cold Wraps were shown to provide hours of relief from pain and inflammation without the inconvenience and discomfort of ice or frozen gel packs. I can attest to this myself, I definitely felt the cooling relief with Arctic Ease. Dual Action Arctic Ease Wraps combine the benefits of cold and compression therapies while conforming to the affected site so it stays in place while you remain active!  Arctic Ease works great for sprains, repetitive motion injuries, pain associated with arthritis, bruises and muscle cramps. I love how easy it is to use and that it is reusable!

Arctic Ease Wraps are four inches wide by five feet long and can be cut to fit. I am a huge fan of Arctic Ease wraps to treat my knee & ankle pain. They are super easy to use and you can even re-use them! Available in a variety of fun colors, I received the pink and LOVE IT! Super easy to use, just open the plastic jar, cut your desired length and apply. Place back in the jar and add a bit of water to re-use. They are also made in the USA!

After running a 5 or 10k race on concrete my knee (post surgery) and ankle (bad sprain many years ago) both act up on me. That's when I am REALLY glad I have the Arctic Ease wrap. Using a simple figure 8 motion, I wrapped my knee & ankle with the Arctic Ease wrap and was able to go about my daily activities. The use of the Arctic Ease reduces my down time and I am back to my normal exercise routine in no time. I really loved the cool feeling on my aching knee & stiff ankle!  Arctic Ease feels great - especially in the summer heat!!!

Other benefits of Arctic Ease Wraps include:
  • Safe and effective treatment for mild to moderate aches and pains
  • Safely worn for hours to reduce inflammation and reduce pain without restricting your activity
  • Arctic Ease products are reusable
  • Arctic Ease products are odor-free, latex-free and adhesive-free

Cathe Friedrich's Ripped With HiiT Series Rave & Review

I have been eyeing Cathe's new Ripped With HiiT series since the pre-sale and I finally bit with Christmas money from my mom. The set includes 9 main workouts and 2 bonus ab workouts  on 7 DVDs (in one DVD case) and 74 premixes!!! You can purchase the DVD's individually or you can purchase the entire set at a discounted rate. The Ripped with HiiT set also comes with a users guide you can download for free. The bonus ab workouts are included on each of the 7 DVD's and are included in many of the premixes. As with all Cathe DVDs the workouts are fully chaptered and the abundance of premixes makes her DVDs so so so cost effective. I have done all of these workouts and LOVE each of them. Keep reading to get the low down on the set and stay tuned on the blog for detailed reviews of each workout! Click on the "Ripped With HiiT" link on the right to get directly to each RWH post.

The set includes 9 workouts and 2 bonus ab routines all on 7  DVDs in one sturdy plastic case. The workouts range from HiiT to heavy strength training, circuits, low impact, plyo, step work, and more. What I love the most about this set is how many premixes are available. You can really get so much variety and mix it up that I know I wont get bored with this set anytime soon. Also love that Cathe included the ab workouts on each DVD and in the premixes so you can incorporate your ab work into the other routines without having to switch discs. You will need dumbbells, a step bench with risers, and in my opinion optional barbell and exercise band for some workouts.

The great cardio work, mixed with HiiT training, low impact cardio, varied ab work, plyometric training & heavy strength training make this a super well rounded set that I know will give me fab results. I love that the users guide is so inclusive and provides so much variety and detailed info. All the workouts have easy to follow drill type athletic cardio (LOVE!). No fancy choreo, get in, get your sweat on, and get out. No dread for any of the workouts and a lot of variety from previous Cathe offerings and within the set. Each workout is structured differently from the others so I know I wont get bored with these.

DVDs (each includes the 2 ab workouts & NUMEROUS premixes):

Cathe Friedrich: Rock Out Knock Out Review

Cathe Friedrich: Rockout Knockout
Cathe Friedrich, 2013

Cathe leads this 55 min kickboxing workout in a gym set with 3 backgrounders. The DVD also includes a 10 min bonus heavy bag routine. Cathe & crew use boxing gloves for a portion of the workout, though you could use weighted gloves or no gloves at all. The DVD is chaptered and includes a TON of premixes.

After a warmup you move into a boxing routine with no gloves: jab cross plyo knee pulls, jab & jack series, speed bag up -cross & shuffle back, jump rope variations, step side kick & pump, scissors, plyo hop forward & block jacks back, ice breakers, march & hitch kick, plyo kicks, elbow strikes, punches, & plyos. Glove routine: X jumps, punches with combos, shuffle & slip, & flurry. Kickbox Combos: punch & kick combos, knee & elbow strikes, punch & kick combos, and finishes with core work & a cooldown.

I rate this a high intermediate routine. Cathe keeps you going pretty nonstop and the pace is quick. Fun routines that will get your heartrate up & are easy to follow without being boring. Cathe's instruction is impeccable and I enjoy her instruction style. As with most boxing/ kickboxing workouts, you give it your all and you can get an amazing workout. I did NOT receive this DVD to review.
