Rugged Maniac Obstacle Course 5K



This is the third time I have done this 5k. It was actually my favorite obstacle course- tough but doable. Well I didnt have as much fun this time. Not sure why. The mud smelled so bad, made me think I was going to contract flesh eating bacteria and the obstacles seemed hum drum. Dont get me wrong (lol after that) I still had a great time & it was a good run with a good friend, but I dont think Ill be doing it again. It was also SUPER hot that day. Here we are in November and still in the 80's/90's. Anyway here are some highlights from the race. 


This was very close to the end of the race- check out our faces LOL. It was quite steep and you went really fast. Below- I had lightened up a bit and am cracking a smile.


Here is a one of the barbed wire mud crawls. This look on my face is "I have mud & possibly ebola in my eye" .....

Fitness Favorites Presents: The FIRM FIRMology 2 Disc Set


Fitness Favorites presents digitally remastered FIRM, FitPrime, & KickButt favorites, some for the first time EVER on dvd, and some new collections!  Stay tuned for detailed reviews of more awesome Fitness Favorite dvds and below is my review of the FIRM FIRMology two disc anthology.

The FIRM FIRMology

The FIRM FIRMology is a 2 DVD set that includes "20 Questions," "Form Points," Rehearsals and Interviews from the instructors and Anna & Cynthia Benson. It also other information, such as 'Also included are "video coach," FIRM scientific testing,"  and the FIRM Glossary!

The Benson sisters opened their FIRM studio in 1979 and their AWT (aerobic weight training) method was groundbreaking and decades before its time. In 1986 the FIRM Volume 1 was introduced to the public with a profound effect on the market. Their groundbreaking technique is explained in detail in this anthology along with fun tidbits and of course some great nostalgia.

Much of the footage was available on VHS as separate tapes that could be purchased in the 80's & 90's to give the users more information on the importance of lifting weights and on the FIRMs signature AWT methodology. So much great information, even today this contains tons of relevant today information. Great for FIRM collectors and for all of us that like the nostalgia factor as well. Priced at only $9.99, this is a must have for all fitness lovrs. I received this DVD set to review.

Total Strength and Conditioning Suzanne Andrews Functional Fitness DVD Review


Suzanne Andrews is an Occupational Therapy Clinician by trade and she has designed medically proven exercises with the best pacing for fastest results and these workouts are now available on DVD. Suzanne has a huge heart and provides the TV series (for mid age through seniors) to PBS for free as a way to give health back to the community.  All proceeds from DVD sales go toward providing more free episodes. Her workouts range from arthritus walks, Tai Chi, bladder control, to more mainstream fitness routines. Read below for a detailed review of her Total Strength and Conditioning DVD.

This DVD contains three workouts. All three workouts show a standing or seated alternative for all exercises. Suzanne works out (standing) with one seated background exerciser in a beautiful outdoor garden in MD. You will only need dumbbells (abs & arms), optional ankle weights (lower body), and an optional chair (seated mod) for these workouts. The workouts are done in voice over and all include a built in warm up.

Leg Strengthener: (26 min) Exercises include knee rotations, hip rotations, trunk rotations, small side lunges pulses, plie with scooping arms, squats, squat hops, external hip rotations, lateral leg raises, V step, squat abductions, glute raises, and side lunge reaches. Suzanne adds in 30-60 sec marching or jogging intervals interspersed throughout the workout.

Arm Conditioning: (26 min) Exercises include forward bends, shoulder flexion, torso twists, sword pull, forward arm circles, tri pulls behind your back, tri kickbacks and pulses, bi curls, urpight row, rows. You then repeat and conclude with side bends and a few deep breaths.

Vertical Ab Toner: (26 min) Exercises include oblique reaches, bend and reach, torso twists, leg raises, side bends, elbow to knee pull, back extensions, forward bend variations, dead lifts, swimmers, standing crunches, and a cool down. Weights are used for all exercises.

These are beginner routines that are easy to amp up if desired. They are very functional, easy to execute and effective. Suzanne provides great form pointers and exercise tips as you go. The pace is just right and you accomplish a lot in under 30 minutes. I really like that the exercises are shown seated and standing to accommodate all fitness levels. I received this DVD to review.

Halloween Mash & Dash 5k 2016

Halloween Mash & Dash 5k 2016


I did this one last year & it was fun so we did it again this year. Great race, well organized, and good location. I would recommend this one for sure. Last year they came with medals and this year a cool mug. I actually have so many medals now so the mug is nice variety. Plus I dont really feel like a 5k merits a medal lol. Its not that long, not saying its easy because Im no runner, just saying. Anyways I put my mug on my shelf in my home gym. Pics to come of my newly remodeled gym room.


And here is the swag. SUPER cute tank!! I wore last years tank with my orange capris and shoes to feel in the festive Halloween mood. Love last years tank & this years too!
